Black on Red, 1930's PEE POSH Indian Handmade pottery bowl.
Made by Maricopa Indians in Arizona. Sometimes marketed as Pima Indian pottery in the early days of tourist sales. Original tribal name: Xalychidom PiiPaash. English language shortened it to PEE POSH.
This is a LARGE size measuring 6 inches across by apx. 3 3/4 inches high.
VERY NICE COLLECTIBLE condition. Has small crack on rim - see photos. No notable chips.
Black on Red clay design is faded some but is typical for age and style of this material.
Pot is unsigned. Dates it to being made prior to 1937. see website for research:
This was acquired as a tourist trade item in the 1930's through the Fred Harvey company. Bits of white-backed label glue is still visible on bottom of bowl.
This bowl weighs one pound. Shipping is estimated at 3 lbs with packing material and box weight.
